SUMMARY:High School Plein Air Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The French Term Plein Air means “out of doors” and refers to the practice of painting outdoor.\nEnroll Here \nSteelville Arts Council (STARCO) is proud to present the 3rd annual HSPA retreat. Over the past 12 years STARCO has hosted the annual Plein Air event in the Steelville area featuring artists from around the Midwest. We are excited to share the details of our 3rd High School Plein Air with your school. \nThe students will learn the fundamentals of plein air painting\, working with mentors and guest artists each day. The event will take place from 9am on Friday May 31st\, 2024\, through 4pm on Sunday June 2nd\, 2024. The High School Plein Air will be hosted at the Mound Ridge Retreat Center (moundridge.org). \nWe are asking the art teachers in the surrounding area high schools to share with art students and invite them to participate in this weekend-long event. Our goal is a total of 15 to 20 students. We invite art teachers to attend as well. \nFollowing are the requirements for those students selected: \n\nCurrently enrolled as a freshman\, sophomore\, junior or senior\nDemonstrating a sincere desire to continue to grow\, learn and share their talents\nSelected students must be able to commit to the dates May 31st to June 2nd\, 2024.\nStudents will be provided with lodging\, all meals/snacks and art materials for the weekend. They will be expected to stay overnight at the lodge on Friday and Saturday. There will be chaperones and separate lodging for the girls and for the boys.At the end of the retreat a reception will be held for friends\, family\, and community to view and/or purchase artwork showcased at Gallery Zeke. The artwork will be on display during the regular Plein Air event the following week.\nThe cost for the retreat is $500 per student\, which will be taken care of by the Steelville Arts Council. However\, a deposit of $50 will be required to reserve the students spot. This deposit will be refunded on Sunday at the reception to everyone who participated Friday through Sunday. \nWe at STARCO are very excited to offer this opportunity to up and coming youth artists in the community. Our ongoing mission is to promote arts in our community through awareness\, appreciation\, education\, and support; creating a connection between artists and audiences to enrich the quality of life for all.
